Day by day

1. Day1

   Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi

   Your guide meets you at the airport and drives you to your hotel in Nairobi.

2. Day2

   Day 2: To the Maasai Mara

   Drive to the Mara in time for lunch at the lodge, then an afternoon game drive for wildebeest, elephants, zebras, leopards and hyenas.

3. Day3

   Day 3: Full day in the Maasai Mara

   An early game drive at sunrise, lunch at the lodge, then an afternoon by the Mara River, where animals come down to drink.

4. Day4

   Day 4: To Volcanoes National Park

   Leave the Mara after breakfast and travel to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda.

5. Day5

   Day 5: Gorilla trekking

   Drive to the park headquarters at Kinigi for a briefing, then trek into the forest to find a gorilla family. The day usually takes around six hours.

6. Day6

   Day 6: Golden monkey tracking

   After a briefing at Kinigi, track golden monkeys and spend an hour watching them in the bamboo forest.

7. Day7

   Day 7: Departure

   Transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Route

Parks visited, in order. Starts at Nairobi (Jomo Kenyatta International Airport) and ends at Airport transfer for your flight home.

Getting around

Price on request. Lodges, permits and group size change the cost, so we quote in writing for your dates.

This is a private trip: you choose the start date. We need at least 14 days' notice to arrange permits and lodges, so the earliest start date available now is Thu, Nov 19, 2026.

Permits and preparation

Permits

Gorilla and golden monkey tracking in Rwanda need permits from the Rwanda Development Board, booked once you confirm. Your quote shows whether they are included.

Fitness

Gorilla treks follow ranger trails through steep, muddy forest and can take from under an hour to most of a day, depending on where the family is. You should be comfortable walking for several hours on uneven ground. Porters can be hired at the trailhead.
