Day by day
Day 1: Entebbe to Kibale National Park
Drive west to Kibale, about five to six hours, through tea estates and the Batooro heartland around Fort Portal. Check in and, if you have energy, take an evening walk through the nearby communities.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and Bigodi Wetland
Track chimpanzees in Kibale Forest, which has one of the highest concentrations of primates in East Africa. In the afternoon, walk through Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary with a local guide who explains the area's wildlife and conservation work.
Day 3: Kibale to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
A five- to seven-hour drive south to Bwindi. Settle into your lodge, with the option of a cultural visit with the Batwa people, who lived in these forests for generations.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi
After a briefing from park rangers, set off into the forest to find a habituated gorilla family. Once you reach them you have one hour in their company, following the rangers' guidance on distance and behavior.
Day 5: Bwindi to Lake Mburo National Park
Drive five to six hours to Lake Mburo. After checking in, choose an evening game drive or a boat trip to look for zebra, hippos and waterbirds.
Day 6: Lake Mburo on foot, by boat or on horseback
Explore the park on a guided walk, a game drive or a horseback safari, then take a boat out on the lake. Look out for zebra, eland, hippos and many bird species.
Day 7: Return to Entebbe
Drive back to Entebbe for your flight home, stopping at the equator on the way.
